My goal has always been to provide Alicia with the best life.
I never wanted her to experience the bad and the behind-the-scenes struggles that most would run away from—errors in judgment, business failures, empty bank accounts, endless dedication without immediate rewards, and constant battles in an industry that seems to favour flashy marketing over genuine client success.
But this newsletter isn’t about how Alicia has stayed by my side.
It’s about something I caught her doing that showed me how a small amount of belief and love can shape the man I’m able to be.
It was 1:28am on a Wednesday.
I was in the living room, working late, when I heard a post playing from our bedroom.
1:30am: I hear it again.
I think, maybe she’s just letting it play out twice to boost engagement.
1:34am: It’s playing again.
Then Alicia calls out to me, “PEOPLE NEED TO WATCH THIS SHIT.”
1:38am: It’s on repeat. I walk into the room.
“What are you doing?”
1:42am: Still looping.
Turns out, Alicia was watching the video at least twice—on her personal account, the Money Friends account, and our travel inspiration account.
I asked her why she was doing it, thinking it was unnecessary.
“I’ve always done it. I just want to help.”
We’re private people, so I won’t share much more, but I need to say this: there are often assumptions that Alicia has wealth because of me or that she can do and buy things because of me.
It frustrates the fu*k out of me. We’re able to do what we do because of each other. We’re a team, helping each other in ways that often go unnoticed.
And here’s the part that’s hard to admit, especially for the men reading this:
I strive daily to be as supportive for her as she is for me.
We’d grow so much faster and stronger if I had her abilities.
RKDSundays was created on the 15th of April 2018.
It’s been my creative outlet, my way of sharing this journey with you.
Everything you see—every email design, logo, piece of text, and image—is created by me. Over time, I’ll get better, and along the way, I’ll make mistakes. I hope you’ll enjoy the ride because I’m certain that one day, I’ll create something amazing.
Financial advisers shouldn’t write books (more about that later), hence why, in time, I’d like to release a coffee table piece instead ;).
There’s an option to support this side journey but no obligation.
If you’re receiving this for the first time, I haven’t written here in nearly two years. But expect some consistency moving forward.
Feel free to unsubscribe if you’re not interested in the personal and behind-the-scenes aspects of building my business.
Otherwise, I’ll write to you on Sundays when the time feels right.
Reading this makes me unbelievably happy for you both 😭
Good stuff mate looking forward to more of RKDSundays
