Emo fringes were history, Zyzz brought muzzing from Masif into a bodybuilding Stereosonic scene and I had just landed my first “real” job.

The Dream

I had a PAYG job and the cash to make loan repayments.
It’s time to go RWD.
Enough VTEC.

Purchased with a CBA personal loan after my first paycheque.
I finally had it. A drift car.

The work begun.
Engine rebuild, coil-overs, wheels, quick release, Nardi and of course a welded diff.

The Reality

Modifications complete.
Arteries clogged from all the late night snack packs and it was time to turn the key.

I wanted to drive in a destination where they had the best roads in Australia.
Tasmania.

Why?

I was ready to start another business.

I spent 3 months there.
Building a business while driving across the whole state to build my client base.

Strategically following the Targa Tarmac Course.
Until I blew my engine one night in the middle of a Touge.

I was flying to New York for another chapter of my life the following week, so I left the car outside my home.

While in NY, I got a call from one of my staff.

“I don’t know how to tell you this, but someone stole your wheels.”

I found the prick on Gumtree but the cops didn’t do anything.
Asked my staff member to grab everything out of the car…
Including the steering wheel.

1 week later I get another call.

"I don’t know how to tell you this, but your car isn’t there anymore.”

Looking back at it now, this saved me from going back to Tasmania and continuing that business. Because if I had, I wouldn’t be here today.

and my nephew got a Nardi for his 180.

So why the story?
My Spotify was on shuffle at the gym.
A song I never wanted to hear again came on that I popped my engine to.
This time, it made me laugh and I couldn’t take the smile off my face.

So now that I’m in my 30’s with some residual cash, I often look for what I really wanted to begin with. (Before I buy the GT3 of course.)

While scrolling CarSales, ready to engage my NA8 MX-5 stupidity.
My friend sent me an auction listing.

Honda City Turbo 84’

Don’t ask me why, but I was the winning bid.

I’m now 2.5 years deep into modifying this stupid thing.
So you might see a build thread here when it’s complete.
