In 2018, I felt the same and came across the below.
Cliff Notes: “The mentor rules; the law of 33%, spend 33% of your time with people behind you, bring them forward, 33% of your time with people on your level who become your friends and peers, and the final 33% of your time should be spent with people who are 10x further ahead than you. Don't be afraid to go to the top.”
I didn’t have anyone around me that was 10x ahead of where I was, 10x ahead in the things they were doing, or 10x ahead of where I wanted to be.
So what did I do?
Now, don’t judge me.
At the time I was working from Joe and the Juice in the Sydney CBD for at least 2 hours a day, they had a large boardroom and no one was using it.
I approached the staff and asked if I could book the boardroom for an event every Wednesday for a year. They said yes after I bought them a case of beers.
Now, the next step.
I found 100 individuals that I looked up to, had fascinating business models, wanted to work with or learn from, and sent them the below…

The following Wednesday I arrived at 8:30 am and the room started filling up.
5 individuals waiting, I introduced myself, asked them what they would like to drink, and began facilitating the meeting.
I apologised on behalf of Joe for not being able to attend.
(The excuse was always different)
We then walked through the event roadmap.

If you bring a friend, buy them a juice
If you're late, Joe will have a consequence for you

The attendees would then receive an email summary of the event.
The group grew within 3 weeks to the boardroom’s capacity of 12.
They realised I was Joe after a few weeks, I think a lot had realised from day 1 but they appreciated the hustle and the reasoning behind it.
Until today, we all keep in contact and have easily 10x’d our ventures since.
We all found value from the meetings and continue to run them but it’s become something bigger now.
With COVID closing down our face-to-face events, we’ve shifted to an online format which now opens the door to more members.
Please understand that this is not like a BNI group or networking circle to get more business. This is about bringing your knowledge and leaving it at the table and walking away with everyone else’s to grow more.
Naturally, when you understand someone’s business more or they understand yours you may create synergy. That can be done outside of Y33’s time.
